My work is a reflection of passion, not so much to record the scene but for capturing the essence of a subject. I view art as a way to jolt the viewer into noticing the simple scenes taken for granted and many times passed. Capturing the magic of the moment is enhanced by my feelings of the mood of the time and place. To accomplish this, I compose rhythms of color much the same as musical notes in a symphony, each harmoniously contributing independently to a wonderful ensemble. My paintings can take many directions of style and display much energy. Some show simple daily life, patterns of color and design, and others a whimsical fairy tale. I never approach a new painting with style or technique in mind. Each develops its own personality and evolves with simple brush strokes. Some are heavily layered and over-painted, creating textures of edges and shadows that you want to touch. Others are painted with first time strokes with an emphasis on shape, composition and color. My paintings are like my children each having it’s own personality, unique character, individual expression and above all reminders of my joys.
