"THE
TAKEOFF"

"The
Takeoff" is the image of a great blue heron
in the initial moments of fight. The powerful first strokes of
its wings with their fully extended primary and secondary
feathers create a beautiful pattern. It is an instant of grace
frozen in time!

"ALARM
CALL"

The
"Alarm Call" is a territorial song
by this Carolina Wren. It is thought to be a reaction to the
approach of a competitor or a predator. Cocked up tail feathers
and constant activity are the trademark of this little creature as
it goes about cleaning our yards and gardens of insects.

"ECSTASY"

"Ecstasy"
for this American Robin and many other song birds is crouching in
a shallow pool, ruffling their feathers and flicking the
refreshing water over their entire body. They seem to be lost in
the pure joy of it!

"WINGDANCE"

The "Wingdance"
of the Northern Mockingbird is a leap of about six feet straight
up from the highest perch in the tree tops floating back down to
the same point, all the while singing its complex and repetitive
song. It is a performance that will be repeated over and
over again. It is a wonderful thing to observe!

"THE
CHOICE"

"The
Choice" shows a pair of American Goldfinches as they pair up
among the blossoms of Spring. They will nest in late Summer. She
